Overview
The Young Filmmakers Workshop is a two-day weekend course for 14–17-year-olds. This course provides an introduction to the fundamental skills required to create content for film, television and online media. This course is suitable for beginners, no previous experience is required.

Young Filmmakers Workshop is designed to introduce you to the following core areas:
- Storytelling for the screen
- Camera, lights and sound
- Shooting for the edit
- Creative editing
Students can expect to explore the world of filmmaking and content creation through lectures, workshops, and a filming exercise.

What you will study

The following list is an overview of the topics and themes covered in the Young Filmmakers Workshop.
Visual Storytelling
Students will learn how to tell stories through the use of visual mediums, looking at composition, framing, blocking and camera positions and how to engage an audience.
Directing
Students will learn about the role of the Director, how to communicate with actors and the key collaborative relationships which are at the core of filmmaking.
Post-Production
Students will understand the importance of shooting for the edit and be introduced to the craft of editing.
Camera, Lighting and Sound
Students will learn the basics of camera, lighting, and sound to enable the production of short, filmed exercises.
Final Filming Exercise
Students will collaborate across their group to prep, shoot, and edit a short, filmed exercise.

Minimum Age: 14-17 at the start of the course.
This course is open enrolment and there are no entry requirements.
In order to get the most out of the course, you should be able to both speak and write in English to a reasonable standard.
Please be aware that we have a limited number of places available for each course intake and operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
Duration and Location
- Duration: Two Days Full-Time.
- Locations: MetFilm School London, Birmingham, Brighton, and Manchester.
